Swift Action by Law Enforcement

HYDERABAD — In a decisive intervention against illegal minor marriages, the Kalapathar Police in Hyderabad successfully prevented the wedding of a 17-year-old girl in the Biyem Shah Tekri area. Authorities not only halted the ceremony but also stepped in to ensure that the teenager was enrolled in a degree college to continue her higher education.

According to senior police officials, the operation was launched on the evening of October 8 after law enforcement received credible intelligence at approximately 6:30 PM regarding an imminent child marriage involving a minor.

Raid and Arrests

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a specialized police team raided the wedding venue. Investigators confirmed that preparations were underway to marry the 17-year-old girl to 42-year-old Arif Ali Baig, a resident of Jahangir, Hyderabad.

Following the intervention, the Child Marriage Helpline was notified, and formal complaints were lodged. A comprehensive case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.

Law enforcement has initiated legal proceedings against several individuals involved in orchestrating the ceremony, including the groom Arif Ali Baig, Qazi Mohd. Jahangir who was to solemnize the marriage, the mediator Shabeer, and the minor's parents.

Dispelling Rumors and Emphasizing Education

Addressing conflicting reports circulating on social media, police clarified the background of the groom. Authorities confirmed that Baig is an Indian national working as a cab driver in Dubai, categorically dismissing viral claims alleging that he was a foreign dignitary or a "Dubai sheikh."

In a positive turn of events following the ordeal, local authorities coordinated with support networks to help the teenager secure admission into a degree college. Officials emphasized that this step marks a crucial milestone in safeguarding her fundamental rights and securing her future.

Call for Community Vigilance

Reiterating their commitment to eradicating child marriages, the police department urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases immediately to local law enforcement or the national Child Marriage Helpline.

Community policing wings underscored that active cooperation from the public remains vital in dismantling illegal marriage networks and ensuring that children are protected and allowed to pursue education unhindered.
