Tragedy Strikes Bora Service Area

GUWAHATI — A vicious dispute over a commercial lease erupted into deadly violence on Monday, leaving five people dead and another critically injured in a shooting at a hotel in Assam’s largest city.

According to local law enforcement, the incident unfolded inside Hotel Bilas Inn, situated in the bustling Bora Service area of Guwahati. The perpetrator, identified as the hotel's leaseholder, allegedly opened fire on individuals associated with the property's owner following a prolonged disagreement regarding the establishment's lease agreement.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta briefed reporters on the rapidly developing situation, confirming that six individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation.

"Six persons sustained gunshot wounds, of whom five succumbed to the injuries. One person is currently undergoing treatment," Commissioner Mahanta stated.

Authorities moved swiftly following the distress calls. The primary suspect, who carried out the shooting, has been taken into police custody. Investigators successfully recovered the weapon used in the attack—a .32-bore licensed pistol—which has been seized as primary evidence.

Unresolved Questions Remain

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the root cause of the bloodshed was a bitter commercial conflict over the terms and continuation of the hotel's lease. Police have confirmed that all five deceased victims were aligned with or working on behalf of the hotel owner.

As forensic teams comb the crime scene and detectives begin formal interrogations, further details regarding the exact sequence of events leading up to the gunfire are awaited. Daily News 365 will continue to provide updates as local authorities release more information on this developing criminal investigation.
