Adani Power has reported a significant jump in its quarterly net profit, driven by higher electricity demand and revenue growth.

Robust Financial Performance in Q2

Adani Power has announced a staggering 142 per cent year-on-year surge in its net profit, reaching Rs 7,019.32 crore for the second quarter of the 2026-27 financial year. The significant financial uptick was primarily propelled by heightened operating revenues, surging electricity demand across the country, and strategic one-time income adjustments.

In the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year, the company had registered a profit after tax of Rs 2,906.46 crore, according to an official regulatory filing.

Revenue Growth and Market Drivers

Operating revenue for the quarter under review grew by 29.8 per cent to Rs 17,014.06 crore, up from Rs 13,106.34 crore recorded in Q2 FY26. Company executives attributed this growth to sustained high volumes stemming from an exponential rise in power demand nationwide. Furthermore, tariffs under existing power purchase agreements (PPAs) were positively impacted by elevated imported coal prices and favorable merchant power realization.

A notable component of the quarterly financial statement was a one-time prior period revenue recognition totaling Rs 2,422.25 crore in Q2 FY27. This was largely driven by historical energy charge revisions under specific PPAs, compared to a similar prior-period recognition of Rs 668.53 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Optimized Debt and Future Expansion

Adani Power also demonstrated disciplined financial management, reporting a 9.7 per cent reduction in finance costs. Interest and financing expenditures dropped to Rs 760.23 crore for the September quarter, down from Rs 841.63 crore a year prior. The reduction was achieved through robust operating cash flow generation and the controlled utilization of operational debt.

Pre-tax profits similarly reflected strong momentum, climbing 32.5 per cent to Rs 4,369.51 crore from Rs 3,297.68 crore in Q2 FY26.

For the first half of FY27 spanning April to September, the company's cumulative net profit surged by 91.4 per cent to reach Rs 11,885.92 crore, compared to Rs 6,211.59 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Looking ahead, Adani Power confirmed that its ambitious capacity expansion roadmap is advancing rapidly, with plans to incorporate an additional 23,720 MW of thermal power generation capacity to meet India's escalating energy requirements.
