Agra Legislative Council Polls Face Fresh Re-Poll

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially ordered fresh re-polling at three specific polling stations within the Agra Division Teachers' Constituency. The directive follows the voiding of votes cast during the initial polling phase held on October 23 as part of the ongoing 2026 biennial elections for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

According to Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa, the decision was enacted under Section 58A(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The affected locations include:

* Polling Station No. 20: Tehsil Campus, Kheragarh * Polling Station No. 21: Kshetra Panchayat Office, Saiyan * Polling Station No. 26: Kshetra Panchayat Office, Fatehabad

Strict Timelines and Security Protocols

The re-poll is scheduled to take place on October 26, 2026, operating from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. District and election authorities have been instructed to finalize all logistical arrangements well within the stipulated timeframe while keeping contesting candidates, observers, and media personnel informed.

In an effort to uphold absolute transparency and integrity, the ECI has mandated that any officials, police personnel, or individuals whose actions or negligence contributed to the initial irregularities will face strict accountability. Furthermore, these individuals are strictly barred from receiving any assigned duties during the upcoming re-poll process.

Accountability and Inquiry Ordered

The Divisional Commissioner of Agra has been tasked with conducting an immediate, thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the voided votes. A comprehensive report regarding the lapses must be submitted directly to the Eci.

During the upcoming voting process, election officials will apply indelible ink strictly to the right index finger of every participating voter. Once the re-polling concludes successfully across all three designated stations, authorities will formally apply for permission from the Election Commission to commence the vote-counting process.
