Strategic Pivot by Opposition Parties

The INDIA opposition bloc has revised its strategy for an upcoming campaign targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, shifting from a planned "Mock Parliament" to an event officially designated as a "People's Impeachment" or Jan Mahabhiyog.

According to senior political figures, the alteration was made to steer clear of actions that could potentially be construed as a breach of parliamentary privilege or contempt of Parliament. The proceedings are scheduled to take place at the New Delhi residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Structure and Proceedings

To ensure proper parliamentary decorum and procedural gravity, the leadership has entrusted former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar with the responsibility of conducting the session. She will be supported by a designated Samajwadi Parliamentarian.

The event is slated to commence in the afternoon and extend into the early evening. Leaders from 19 participating political parties are scheduled to address the gathering, with strict time allotments implemented for speakers.

Key opposition figures will anchor the proceedings. Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge is set to initiate the arguments, while Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will deliver the concluding address.

Focus on Electoral Roll Discrepancies

The central grievance driving the protest is the large-scale removal of voter names from official electoral rolls. Opposition leaders contend that the administrative process conducted by the poll panel has adversely impacted between 13.5 crore and 16.5 crore voters nationwide.

In addition to prominent political leaders, the roster of speakers includes individuals whose names were reportedly purged from voter registries, alongside representatives from civil society organizations.

The proceedings will be broadcast live across various digital and social media channels operated by participating opposition parties, concluding with the rendition of the national anthem.
