Investigation Reveals Elaborate Ruse

In a bizarre case that highlights the escalating crisis of online gaming addiction among youth, a 17-year-old NEET aspirant in Lucknow orchestrated a fake kidnapping and even feigned his own death to extract money from his family. According to local law enforcement, the teenager plotted the entire scheme to clear mounting debts incurred from playing online games.

The incident began when the teenager left his residence after 9:00 PM. Concerned by his sudden disappearance, his mother formally lodged a missing person report at the Para police station. Meanwhile, the boy's father, who is employed by a private firm in New Delhi, received a terrifying series of messages.

The Extortion Plot

Investigators revealed that after leaving home, the teenager removed the SIM card from his mobile device to prevent direct tracking. Utilizing a local Wi-Fi connection, he used WhatsApp to transmit ransom demands to his mother, father, and uncle, claiming to be a ruthless kidnapper holding the boy captive.

To escalate the pressure on the distressed family, the teenager sent a voice note using a disguised voice, demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. In a manipulative bid to accelerate payment, he went as far as sending messages claiming that the captive had already been killed. Desperate for their son's safety, the family managed to arrange Rs 3 lakh.

Gaming Addiction Triggers Crisis

Local authorities launched a comprehensive cyber and physical tracing operation to locate the supposedly abducted teen. However, the investigation quickly unraveled when police tracked the digital footprints and physical location, ultimately recovering the teenager safe and sound alongside his girlfriend.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jitendra Kumar Srivastava, the minor was heavily addicted to online gaming platforms. Prior to this incident, the teenager had accumulated roughly Rs 70,000 in gaming losses, which his family had previously paid off. Despite the intervention, the youth continued playing and lost an additional Rs 50,000.

When family members refused to bail him out of his subsequent financial troubles, the teenager devised the kidnapping scheme in a desperate bid to secure funds for his debts. Police have reunited the boy with his family while counseling sessions are being considered to address the underlying behavioral addiction.
