Retired Indian Army Captain Arrested in Tamil Nadu Over Alleged DRDO Information Leak
A 52-year-old retired Indian Army captain has been arrested in Tamil Nadu for allegedly passing sensitive DRDO information to a woman.

Security Agencies Detain Former Officer
Law enforcement and intelligence agencies in Tamil Nadu have arrested a 52-year-old retired Indian Army captain in connection with an ongoing espionage investigation. The accused, identified as Babu, was taken into custody following a coordinated intelligence operation involving local authorities and specialized security agencies.
According to investigators, the former officer is accused of leaking sensitive, classified information pertaining to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Authorities believe the classified data was shared with an unidentified woman with whom the accused was reportedly in a personal relationship.
Investigation Into Foreign Links and Digital Footprints
Investigators are currently probing whether the information was funneled to foreign intelligence networks or hostile entities. The identity and nationality of the woman involved remain unverified, prompting security agencies to pursue extensive digital forensics.
Law enforcement officials have indicated that formal requests are being dispatched to major messaging platforms, including WhatsApp, to secure Internet Protocol (IP) logs and communication metadata. These digital trails are expected to shed light on the exact nature of the data transmitted and trace the wider network, if any, operating behind the breach.
Military Background Under Scrutiny
Preliminary background checks reveal that Babu previously served as a captain in the artillery regiment of the Indian Army before retiring in 1994. His extensive military background and subsequent professional associations are now under intense regulatory and investigative scrutiny.
Following his apprehension near a hideout in the vicinity of Arani within the Tiruvannamalai district—close to Vellore—the accused was formally transferred to central investigative authorities for sustained interrogation. Security agencies are working to map the full extent of the compromised information and evaluate potential breaches of national security protocols.
