Election Commission Oversees Statewide Counting Process

Vote counting for the biennial elections to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council officially commenced at 8:00 AM on Tuesday. The crucial electoral exercise covers five graduates' constituencies and six teachers' constituencies spread across multiple key districts in the state.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, the comprehensive counting operations are taking place under the direct supervision of designated returning officers and election observers. The administration has established strict protocols to ensure absolute transparency, fairness, and security throughout the procedure.

Designated Centers and Security Measures

The meticulous counting process is being conducted at prominent venues across seven major districts: Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Jhansi, Bareilly, and Gorakhpur.

Key venues include: * Lucknow: Ramabai Rally Ground * Varanasi: State Warehouse Corporation * Agra: Naveen Krishi Utpadan Mandi Samiti, Tundla Road * Meerut: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology * Jhansi: Bundelkhand Degree College * Bareilly: Sanjay Community Hall * Gorakhpur: Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University

To maintain the integrity of the process, the Election Commission mandated an uninterrupted 24-hour power supply across all counting centers, complemented by comprehensive CCTV surveillance and mandatory videography of the proceedings.

Navigating the Single Transferable Vote System

Because the Legislative Council elections utilize a system of proportional representation via the single transferable vote (STV) method, election officials noted that the tabulation process is inherently time-consuming. In anticipation of extended operational hours, adequate numbers of trained personnel and reserve staff have been deployed to ensure continuous, seamless execution until the final results are declared.
