Andhra Pradesh Cyclone Damage Estimated at Rs 4,600 Crore, Says CM Naidu
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu pegs preliminary cyclone damage at Rs 4,600 crore as central teams prepare to visit affected districts.

Ground Assessment and Extent of Destruction
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu conducted an extensive aerial survey and ground inspection across the worst-affected districts of Krishna, West Godavari, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema in the aftermath of Cyclone Arnab. The severe weather system has left a trail of destruction, claiming seven lives in cyclone-related incidents across Andhra Pradesh.
Travelling from Amaravati to Cheyyeru village in Katrenikona mandal, the Chief Minister evaluated the damage firsthand. The survey covered critical agricultural hubs including Nimmakuru, Pamarru, Bantumilli, Narasapuram, Palakollu, Amalapuram, and Katrenikona, where vast tracts of inundated paddy fields, damaged banana plantations, uprooted coconut trees, and affected aquaculture ponds bore the brunt of the storm.
Interacting with farmers at Vetlapalem, Mr. Naidu listened to grievances regarding paddy crops that were just a fortnight away from harvest, raising severe concerns over plunging yields and financial distress.
Preliminary Estimates and Central Intervention
Addressing a public gathering at Gachakayalapora village in Mummidivaram constituency, Mr. Naidu officially announced that preliminary assessments place the total damage at Rs 4,600 crore. He cautioned that this figure is expected to escalate once comprehensive field-level evaluations are completed.
"The state government is moving swiftly to document every single loss," Mr. Naidu stated, confirming that central delegations are scheduled to tour the disaster-hit regions to evaluate the scale of devastation firsthand.
The Chief Minister revealed that he has already held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, apprising him of the ground reality and submitting an initial damage report to the central government to fast-track financial assistance amid existing fiscal constraints.
Relief and Infrastructure Restoration
To mitigate the hardships faced by the populace, the state administration has rolled out a comprehensive relief package. Compensation for agricultural and horticultural crop losses will be credited directly to the verified bank accounts of eligible farmers. Additionally, households returning from relief camps are set to receive 25 kilograms of rice, essential commodity kits, and direct financial assistance, alongside a specialized relief of Rs 1,500 for every damaged coconut and oil palm tree.
Restoration of critical infrastructure remains a top priority for the administration. With approximately 8,000 electricity poles downed in the Konaseema region alone, the state government has mobilized external support, requesting 1,000 personnel from neighbouring Telangana, with additional crews expected from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu to accelerate power and telecom grid revamps.
Concluding his tour, Mr. Naidu emphasized that while precautionary measures successfully minimized overall casualties, the administration remains fully committed to rehabilitating every affected family and restoring normalcy across the Godavari delta districts.
