Indian Railways Announces New Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper Express Ahead of Festive Season
Indian Railways is expanding its premium overnight services with the upcoming New Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, operating six days a week.

Expanding Premium Rail Connectivity
Indian Railways is set to launch the highly anticipated Vande Bharat Sleeper Express between New Delhi and Varanasi, bolstering semi-high-speed overnight travel options ahead of the peak festive season. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are expected to officially flag off the premier service from Varanasi.
Following the successful rollout of the Howrah-Kamakhya sleeper route, this new connection aims to provide passengers with enhanced comfort and modern amenities for overnight journeys between the national capital and the holy city.
Schedule, Route, and Accommodations
The semi-high-speed service will operate six days a week, connecting the two destinations efficiently:
* Train No. 27421 (Varanasi to New Delhi): Departs Varanasi at 8:50 PM and arrives in Delhi at 5:55 AM the following morning. * Train No. 27422 (New Delhi to Varanasi): Leaves New Delhi at 9:40 PM and reaches Varanasi at 6:45 AM the next day.
Comprising 16 coaches, the train offers three distinct classes of modern air-conditioned accommodation: Third AC, Second AC, and First AC. Traversing a distance of 760 kilometers via Kanpur Central, the entire journey will be completed in approximately nine hours and 30 minutes.
While official commercial circulars regarding exact fare structures are yet to be released, railway officials indicate that pricing will reflect the advanced amenities and superior travel experience provided onboard.
Broadening the Vande Bharat Network
In addition to the New Delhi-Varanasi link, regional connectivity will receive a further boost with the simultaneous launch of two MEMU services—connecting Varanasi with Prayagraj Rambagh and Varanasi City with Raja Talab.
Furthermore, Indian Railways is preparing to inaugurate the eagerly awaited Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat sleeper route early next month, following final approvals and safety preparations.
Data released by the ministry underscores the growing popularity of the Vande Bharat initiative. Since its inception on the New Delhi-Varanasi corridor in February 2019, the network has accommodated over 9.1 crore passengers across one lakh trips. The ongoing expansion underscores the administration's commitment to modernizing India's passenger rail infrastructure to meet surging travel demand.
