Brutal Assault in Mehsana District

A 31-year-old credit manager was brutally beaten to death after being tied to a tamarind tree in Kheralu taluka of Gujarat's Mehsana district, police officials confirmed on Thursday. The tragic incident, suspected to be an honor killing, stems from an ongoing romantic relationship.

The victim has been identified as Ranjeetji Chaturji Thakor, a resident of Wagharol village in Sidhpur taluka. At the time of his death, Ranjeetji was employed as a credit manager at Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company in Sidhpur.

Sequence of Events

According to preliminary investigations and statements from law enforcement, Ranjeetji had been in a relationship with a local woman—the daughter of Jagaji Ranchhodji Thakor from Thangana village—for approximately two years.

On Tuesday, the victim left his residence for work on his motorcycle. By Wednesday, his family received alarming information that Ranjeetji had traveled to Thangana village to meet the woman and had been intercepted by her family members.

Prompted by the news, the victim's father, Chaturji Badsangji Thakor, accompanied by his brother and other relatives, rushed to Thangana village. Upon arriving at the residence of Jagaji Ranchhodji, they discovered Ranjeetji's lifeless body laid out on an iron cot beneath a tamarind tree, concealed under a sack-like blanket.

An initial physical inspection of the remains revealed severe contusions and traumatic injuries spanning his back, neck, and knees.

Police Investigation and Arrests

According to the formal police complaint lodged by the victim's father, Ranjeetji was bound with a rope to the trunk of the tamarind tree and subjected to a merciless assault using wooden sticks and clubs.

A witness account indicated that Ranjeetji had arrived at the premises at night to meet the young woman. Shortly after being caught, the woman, her son Hiteshji, and her brother-in-law Bhemaji allegedly tied his hands and feet before initiating the beating. Investigators also noted that another local resident, Ramaji Keshaji Thakor from Sakri village, was summoned to the scene and allegedly joined in the fatal assault.

After losing consciousness, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The accused subsequently placed the body on a cot, while some individuals reportedly took the young woman and fled the vicinity.

Local law enforcement units swiftly secured the crime scene, took custody of the remains, and initiated formal legal proceedings, including a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Based on the comprehensive complaint filed by the victim's family, the Kheralu police have registered a formal case against four named individuals: Hansaben Jagaji Thakor, Hiteshji Jagaji Thakor, Bhemaji Ranchhodji Thakor, and Ramaji Keshaji Thakor. Further investigations are currently underway to apprehend all involved parties and establish a complete timeline of events.
